Anxiety Panic Attacks often occur randomly and are extremely shocking and scary experiences. Is there anything a person can do to control an attack? The best thing to do during a panic attack is to really do nothing or rather, don’t fight it. When experiencing panic symptoms don’t let the sensations dictate your actions.

Let the sensations and feelings run their course and remember that they will come to an end. In many cases people who experience anxiety attacks report that they believed that they were on the brink of death. It’s not uncommon for a sufferer to experience symptoms similar to a cardiac arrest.

Stabbing pains in the chest, tingling sensations, shallow breath; these can be disturbing and frightening symptoms. What you have to remember is that panic attacks cannot cause death no matter how severe the symptoms. When you have an attack try to inhale slowly and deeply and try to relax.

Often people hyperventilate when having an anxiety attack which triggers other symptoms. Keep control of your breath by taking deep and slow breaths. Doing this alone, can help calm you and alleviate some of the symptoms. Getting up and walking about can also help you feel more at ease.

Sometimes the aftershock of an anxiety attack can last for hours so it’s important to try and stay relaxed. Divert your attention by doing something to help forget about the panic symptoms. Watch a comedy, make yourself a herbal drink, do some exercise or whatever you enjoy doing.

Anxiety disorders can be difficult to cope with so it’s essential to seek treatment. Ignoring your problem won’t make it go away. Anxiety disorders have been effectively treated with behavioral changing therapies. Disorders can deteriorate if a person goes without help. Also other disorders may develop such as depression and insomnia.

Having multiple disorders can be extremely hard to cope with. Depression makes a person feel frequently miserable and sad. Sufferers might think that their life is pointless and have feelings of no self-worth. They lose all motivation to do anything, even things they once enjoyed.

As you might have guessed treating a person who has both anxiety and depression is much more complicated. People with both disorders are at a higher risk of suicide and are much more likely to turn to drugs and alcohol. Although recreational drugs and alcohol might provide temporary relief in some people, long term use can actually worsen the problem. What’s worse is that sufferers can become dependent and unable to stop.

Another problem that arises often is sleep problems. A majority of people who suffer from anxiety disorders also complain frequently of the inability to sleep. Racing anxious thoughts and physical tension can keep a person feeling awake. When it’s time to sleep they might feel wired and restless and unable to relax enough to sleep.

Anxiety symptoms feel much worse following a night of little or no sleep. Sleeplessness can be chronic and some people might experience months without proper sleep. It goes without saying that it is better to treat disorders such as anxiety and depression sooner rather than later. If you suspect that you have a problem don’t ignore it and get help immediately.
